Scenario Mode - Part 5 - Warring Kingdoms
about 1 year ago – Thu, May 08, 2025 at 10:31:17 AM

Petty rulers, ensnared by their insatiable desires for power, are casting their lands into the cauldron of ceaseless conflict. The suffering of the common folk, mere pawns in the game of rulership, is reaching a crescendo, their lives rent asunder by the whims of those who claim the right to rule. As the kingdoms grapple with their territorial disputes, a sinister shift is taking root beneath the blood-soaked soil. With the gaze of rulers fixated on their earthly ambitions, the shadows are growing darker, birthing malevolent creatures that roam unchecked. Monsters, born of the neglect that stems from the wars above, are multiplying in the unseen corners of Atosia.
May this testament endure as a poignant memento, immortalizing the profound struggles that have indelibly shaped our world.

The Kingdoms Are at War

Atosia is in chaos. Six mighty kingdoms, once bastions of power and pride, are now locked in endless conflict. The era of the Warring Kingdoms has begun — and in the heart of this storm, you stand with a mission that demands more than just strength. It demands tact, allegiance, and sacrifice.

Your objective sounds simple: defeat monsters and complete missions before time runs out. But in this scenario, nothing is ever that simple. With kingdoms at war, every step you take will tip the balance — and the consequences of losing favor with the wrong kingdom could be devastating.

Favor is Everything

This scenario introduces the Favor Track System — a unique mechanic where your choices forge alliances and rivalries that shape the entire game. Here’s how it works:

At the start of each game, 3 pairs of kingdoms are drawn. Each pair is locked in its own private war.

During the Preparation Phase, you’ll face difficult decisions: choose a side in each conflict. Support one kingdom, and you’ll gain their favor — but earn the ire of their enemy.

Every mission, every event, every battle will pull you deeper into this political web. And as the war escalates, kingdoms will remember who stood by them… and who betrayed them.

The more you favor one side, the harsher the punishments from their rivals. And once bridges are burned in wartime, they may never be rebuilt.

A World Shaped by War

While you’re hunting monsters and racing against time, the world itself is shifting around you:

  • Kingdoms close their borders to enemies.
  • Local populace close their doors to those they distrust.
  • Events will escalate conflicts, force sudden choices, and challenge your loyalties.

Your mission becomes more than just defeating monsters — it’s about surviving the political storm and navigating the dangers that war brings to every corner of Atosia.

Why We Love It

  • Deep player choice: Every decision in the favor system carries weight and shapes your path. Every decision matters!
  • Dynamic world events driven by war — no two games feel the same.
  • Adds a rich layer of strategy on top of monster hunting.
  • A perfect blend of politics, combat, and risk-reward gameplay.
  • Forces tough, thematic choices that immerse you in the brutal reality of Atosia’s civil war.

If you love scenarios that challenge not just your combat skills but also your ability to read the board, predict outcomes, and make painful choices — Warring Kingdoms is your battlefield.

Choose your sides wisely, and may your name be remembered not as a pawn… but as the power that turned the tide.

Until next time — may your alliances hold & may your bags be full of silver coins... even in these tides of war.

Scenario Mode - Part 4 - Black Death
about 1 year ago – Fri, Apr 25, 2025 at 02:56:17 AM

The stairs groaned beneath his weight as he descended into the dimly lit basement. Shadows danced along the walls, cast by the feeble light filtering through the solitary window high above. At the center of the chamber stood a masked figure, a silhouette against the faint glow.
The mask he wore, with its strange, bird-like beak, lent an air of ominous mystery to his presence. An aroma hung heavy in the air, sweet yet cloying, masking the scent of decay that pervaded the room. The man was draped in an ankle-length overcoat, obscured further by gloves, boots, and a wide-brimmed hat.

“There you are, I thought you would never come,” he murmured, his voice barely more than a whisper. “Your services are needed in these dark times, to stem the tide of this scourge.”

He gestured towards a table illuminated by the faint shaft of light. Upon it lay a motionless form, a silent testament to the devastation wrought by the plague. Beside it lay a list, a grim inventory of the organs and components required for the task at hand.

“I have listed the necessary items,” the masked man continued. “Procure them for me, and I shall endeavor to halt this calamity. You will, of course, be duly compensated. One-fifth of your reward is yours now; the remainder upon completion of the task.”

As he scanned the list, the enormity of the undertaking became apparent. This would be no simple mission, but a series of perilous quests against formidable foes.

“All of them?” he inquired, his voice tinged with uncertainty. “Indeed,” came the solemn reply. “The Bubonic Plague is not alone in its ravages; Gargoyle and Blood plagues now stalk our lands as well. Swift action is imperative, lest we be overwhelmed by the darkness that threatens to consume us.”

As the hunter contemplated the task ahead, he couldn’t help but voice his concern, “This will require quite some time to accomplish.”

With a heavy heart, he accepted the bag of coins and the list, preparing to embark on a journey fraught with danger and uncertainty. As he ascended the stairs, the plague doctor’s parting words echoed in his mind.

“I fear that time is a luxury we can ill afford.”

The Black Death Rises

The Black Death, in its insidious forms, threatens to engulf the four Capital Cities in its suffocating grip. Three types of Plague, each more sinister than the last, cast their malevolent gaze upon the unsuspecting populace.
You are tasked with a daunting mission: to procure the elusive ingredients necessary to concoct the cures. However, these vital components can only be obtained through the perilous act of slaying monsters and harvesting their coveted body parts.
Time is not a luxury you possess, for the tides of darkness advance inexorably. You must act swiftly and decisively, for failure to gather the necessary ingredients before the Plague spreads beyond salvation will spell doom for Atosia and all who dwell within its borders. The fate of the realm rests squarely upon your shoulders. Will you rise to the challenge and vanquish the encroaching darkness, or will Atosia succumb to the merciless grasp of the Black Death?

Three Plagues, Three Nightmares

Each round begins with a chilling Plague Phase, introducing new infection cubes to kingdoms across the map. Fail to control the spread, and you’ll trigger devastating outbreaks. Here’s what you’re up against:

Bubonic Plague: Rapidly contagious. Increases the number of cubes drawn per round — accelerating your demise.

Septicemic Plague: Infects monsters too, making every encounter more brutal. Expect tougher battles, higher damage, and fewer chances to recover.

Pneumonic Plague: Warps the human form. Affects movement and control, hindering your actions as your hunter struggles to resist the infection's pull.

The Cure Lies in the Hunt

To push back the tide, you’ll need to hunt monsters across Atosia, harvest rare ingredients from their bodies, and discover the right combinations to craft a cure for each plague. The path forward is anything but clear — you’ll have to adapt, experiment, and act fast.

You won’t have time to explore every lead. You’ll need to choose your battles wisely.

Events That Bleed With Tension

In classic Scenario fashion, you’ll encounter unique, plague-themed events designed to pull you deeper into the horror. Some will test your resolve, others your morality. All of them reflect the desperation and panic of a continent in collapse.

Will you save the cities — or sacrifice them to buy time?

Why We Love It

A tense, race-against-time scenario with serious stakes.

Plague mechanics that evolve each round and force you to think ahead and make tough and important decisions.

Monster-hunting with purpose — every fight feels meaningful, carefully choosing which monster to find & hunt, to harvest the correct resources

Deeply thematic events that immerse you in the dread of a spreading pandemic.

High replayability with variable outcomes and ingredient combinations.

This is one of our most intense scenarios to date — where planning, combat, and a little bit of luck must all align. Perfect for solo or duo players who love the pressure of a time crunch and the satisfaction of turning the tide just in time.

Until next week’s reveal… may your hands stay steady, your cures potent, and your bags full of silver coins.

Scenario mode - Part 3 - The Hunt

“Neither have you, my liege. What difference does it make if we stay? The rest of the lords have fled, and we would be wiser to do so ourselves,” pleaded Grimovoir.
“I said No, Grimovoir,” responded the Lord with a stern resolve, his gaze unyielding. “I am not leaving my people, and I will do whatever it takes to slay the monster that has stolen the life of my only child.”

“My lord, we all loved Maerwynn, but the creature that took her and claimed other lives may still be lurking, or it may be gone. Whatever the case, I believe it would be best to leave, ” urged Grimovoir once more.

“Enough. I gave the order,” declared the Lord, his voice echoing through the desolate halls. “Bring the money-hungry men whose only purpose in this life is to seek coins, no matter the threat. I will make sure this creature is found and slain. My soul will not find rest before it does.”

He pressed the palms of his hands against his face, and in the stillness of the room, he cried helplessly, his grief echoing through the abandoned chambers like a haunting melody. The weight of loss and determination intertwined, creating a tapestry of sorrow and vengeance that hung heavy in the air, setting the stage for a dire quest into the heart of darkness.

Hey Hunters,

We’re back with another weekly dive into Silver Coin’s Scenario mode — and this time, it’s all about the thrill of the hunt.

In the wake of tragedy, a noble’s daughter has fallen prey to a monstrous menace, and the grieving lord seeks retribution, offering a substantial reward for justice.
Embark on a quest, whether solo or cooperatively, to unveil and eliminate the creature responsible for the lord’s anguish. In these modes, success hinges on completing the mission within the allotted time. However, in competitive mode, only the player securing the final blow shall emerge victorious.

A Mystery Unfolds

What sets this scenario apart is the investigation itself. At the beginning of the game, there are 4 possible monsters, 4 potential locations, and 4 unique weaknesses. Throughout the game, you’ll need to decipher clues, respond to events, and make tough decisions that help you piece together what you’re truly up against.

Every choice matters. Go down the wrong path, prepare for the wrong enemy, or show up in the wrong place — and you may be facing a loss before the fight even begins.

Decisions That Shape the Hunt

The scenario is built around dynamic, thematic decisions in a form of cool events and each player's start and journey. They offer players choices that influence how the mystery unfolds and how the monster evolves. Do you chase down a lead and risk precious time? Do you prepare early for a possible weakness — or wait until you're sure?

The evolving gameplay makes each run-through feel unique, even if you've played it before.

Competitive With a Narrative Twist

“The Hunt” is one of the rare Scenario Mode experiences that also supports competitive play — a perfect bridge for those who are here primarily for competitive mode but woudl still like to try out this unique and more thematic part of our game. It’s strategic, story-driven, and full of tension — but still accessible to players who just want a fun, thematic chase.

Why We Love It

It’s a mystery-first experience — filled with a lot of tough and important decisions.

Great balance between theme and mechanics.

One of the most replayable scenarios due to branching possibilities.

A perfect entry point for competitive players curious about Scenario mode.

That final moment of reveal, when you figure out the monster, its lair, and its weakness — chef’s kiss.

That’s it for this week’s scenario deep dive — next week, we’ll be back with another! Until then, happy hunting, and may your bags be full of silver coins.

Scenario Mode - Part 2 - Icy winds ❄️
about 1 year ago – Tue, Apr 08, 2025 at 09:28:15 AM

The atmosphere was tinged with an unexpected chill as Fredrik hurriedly closed the windows. A sense of unease settled in as he turned to his mother and said, “Mom, the windows are all closed!”
Perplexed, she gazed out at the landscape. What should have been the onset of spring felt like an eternal winter, growing colder with each passing moment. “This is bewildering,” she mused aloud, her voice laced with concern. “Winter’s grasp shows no sign of loosening, and the days grow colder instead of warmer.”
Realizing the urgency of the situation, she instructed Fredrik, “Quickly, add some wood to the fireplace. We must find warmth.” Peering out towards the valley below, she noticed an eerie darkness enveloping the village. Unusual for this time of night, no lights twinkled below, not even the night’s watch towers.
A shiver ran down her spine, and as she exhaled, her breath materialized in the frigid air. Something was amiss. The world beyond her window seemed to have plunged into an unnatural stillness.
“Fredrik, the wood is frozen solid. The fire won’t catch,” her voice quavered as panic crept in. How could the frost penetrate their very home? A sudden creaking sound drew her attention, and her eyes widened as ice began to encase the window frames.
Her instinct screamed for her to call Fredrik, but her voice failed to escape her lips. She stood frozen, a statue in time, as an enormous figure gripped her shoulder with an icy touch, sending a jolt of terror through her veins.

Hey hunters,

As promised, we’re kicking off our weekly scenario deep dives — and what better way to start than with one of the coldest, most intense experiences the game has to offer: Icy Winds.

Set in the frostbitten northern reaches of Atosia, this scenario throws you into a land slowly being consumed by an unnatural, eternal winter. Your task is simple on paper — hunt down and defeat the ancient terror Hjarnborn, the very source of the Icy Winds. But if you're expecting a straightforward boss battle... think again.

🌬️ Survive the Storm

In Icy Winds, you'll face:

A unique monster only playable in this scenario — the terrifying Hjarnborn

A race against time as kingdoms begin to freeze, city by city

Your own personal objective, which must be completed alongside slaying Hjarnborn

The looming threat of failure if the map succumbs to ice before you’re ready

🧊 The Frost Phase

A new Frost Phase has been added to the game just for this scenario. During this phase:

Hjarnborn moves across the map, freezing cities in his wake

Cities you pass through while frozen will also spread frost to you, slowing your actions and making survival even tougher

Scenario-specific event cards heighten the tension, blending dynamic weather effects with rich storytelling — all centered around the growing dread of thenew weather condition: Icy Winds

⚔️ A Battle to Remember

When it comes to final fights, Icy Winds doesn’t hold back. Hjarnborn is more than a monster — he’s a full-blown boss encounter.

He has 6 unique abilities, any of which can trigger each round of combat

You’ll constantly face unexpected challenges mid-fight — nothing about this encounter is predictable

Every time you deal damage, you’ll have to make a tough choice:
Do you deal 1 damage?
→ Or would it be wiser to negate one of Hjarnborn’s brutal abilities?

Victory will demand strategy, teamwork, and a bit of luck. Defeating Hjarnborn isn’t just about strength — it’s about knowing when to strike, and when to play smart.

🧠 Why We Love It

Icy Winds is one of our most atmospheric scenarios. Between the escalating threat of frost, the chilling buildup, and the final boss encounter that genuinely feels like a desperate, last-stand moment — it’s the kind of experience we imagined when we first created Scenario Mode.

It’s punishing, yes. But if you’re looking for an epic challenge with a cinematic finish, this one’s for you.

Next week, we’ll dive into another scenario — different mechanics, a new story, and fresh challenges to explore. Until then, keep warm, and may your bags be full of silver coins. 🪙

Scenario mode - Part 1 - Introduction
over 1 year ago – Mon, Mar 31, 2025 at 10:43:26 AM

Hey Hunters,

As promised, we’re back with another update! This time, it’s a shorter one focused on the contents of the game while we finalize the cards for print.

Over the next few updates, we’ll be diving into Scenario Mode, a part of the game that hasn’t been in the spotlight as much. There are two main reasons for that:

First, Scenario Mode wasn’t fully finalized when we wrapped up the campaign, and perfecting it took way more time and effort than we initially expected. Each scenario was essentially like designing a whole new game—with different player counts, unique mechanics, fresh story content, and more.

Second, we didn’t want to spoil the surprise. Scenario Mode is deeply rooted in the game’s story and lore, featuring special events and mechanics that intertwine with the narrative. Revealing too much too soon could take away the thrill of discovering it yourself. That said, we’ve decided it’s time to give you a proper look—unfolding the story behind each scenario and the unique mechanics they introduce. We’ll still avoid major spoilers, but if you want to go in completely blind, consider the next updates a potential spoiler zone.

What Makes Scenario Mode Unique?

Unlike Competitive Mode, Scenario Mode brings a whole new experience to the table with several exciting features:

  • 15 Scenarios in total (3 of them in the Trinity Expansion).
  • Playable in SOLO, CO-OP, or even Competitive Mode (Some scenarios are SOLO-ONLY, some support SOLO & CO-OP, while others include all three).
  • Each scenario is heavily focused on Silver Coin’s deep lore. If you’re here just for the gameplay, you’ll still have a blast. But if you’re a lore geek like us, you’ll uncover unique stories centered around different regions, characters, and major events in the history of Atosia. Every scenario includes a short introduction and a story segment that connects directly to the gameplay.
  • Season Cards are replaced with Event Cards. Each scenario introduces its own unique deck of events (at least 15 per scenario), which can be one-time or permanent effects, offer choices that shape the game, and shift between positive or negative outcomes depending on the scenario’s narrative. Some scenarios may even require multiple playthroughs to fully conquer.
  • Unique Winning & Losing Conditions. Every scenario plays differently, challenging you with its own set of objectives and fail conditions.
  • Each scenario introduces its own unique mechanics, some of which completely reshape how the base game is played. While some may feel familiar—offering a fresh twist on existing mechanics—others bring entirely new and unexpected challenges that redefine the experience.
  • New Game Phases. Each scenario includes an Event Phase, and some introduce other unique phases exclusive to that scenario.
  • CO-OP play brings special mechanics! Work together by traveling as a group, pulling off combo moves with unique abilities, sharing & trading items, coins, and knowledge, and even battling monsters as a team.

We’ll be back this weekend with an in-depth look at one of the scenarios and its unique mechanics—so stay tuned!

And as always, may your bags be full of silver coins! 😉
